Keyboard shortcuts

Nearly everything in XLR8 has a shortcut. The tables below come straight from the app’s action list, so they match the version this site was built from. In the app, press ? to search the same list.

  • Single keys like C or S act on what is focused or selected. In a list, that is the focused row, or all selected rows if you have selected some.
  • Sequences like G then I are two keys in a row: press G, release it, then press I within about 1.2 seconds.
  • Context matters. A shortcut only does something where its action makes sense. E, for example, edits the description on an issue page, edits the text on a knowledge page, and removes an entry on the inbox page.
  • While you type in a text field, letters stay letters. Press Esc to leave the field; the shortcuts work again.

These keys work in Triage and in the Inbox.

ActionShortcut
Accept1
Decline3

1 asks for the status the issue should get after triage, or for another team to accept it into. 2 marks the issue as a duplicate and asks for the original. 3 declines it: the issue is canceled and marked as read.

These keys work on the inbox page and in the context menu of an inbox entry. Removing an entry only takes it out of the inbox; the issue itself stays as it is.

The command menu, the issue search and the pickers for status, priority, labels and so on share these keys:

Key Effect
Down arrow or Tab or CtrlCommand J next entry
Up arrow or Shift Tab or CtrlCommand P previous entry
Enter choose the entry
1 to 9 status picker: pick a status directly, in workflow order (only while the search field is empty)
0 to 4 priority picker: 0 No priority, 1 Urgent, 2 High, 3 Medium, 4 Low (only while the search field is empty)
BackspaceDelete in the filter menu, with an empty search field: back from a field’s values to the list of fields
Esc one level back, or close the menu

Right-click an issue to open its context menu. Then:

Key Effect
Down arrow or Up arrow move through the entries
Right arrow open the submenu (status, priority, labels …)
Left arrow back out of the submenu
Enter choose the entry
Esc close the menu
Key Effect
CtrlCommand Enter create the issue and close the dialog
CtrlCommand Shift Enter create the issue and keep the dialog open for the next one; team, status, labels and the other properties stay
Esc close the dialog. If you typed something, it is kept as a draft (Go to: Drafts in the command menu).

Esc leaves a text field (title, description, comment) and keeps what you typed.

In Search in this view (CtrlCommand F), Enter or Down arrow goes back to the list and keeps the search; Esc closes the search and clears it.

Esc always closes the innermost thing first: an open menu, picker or dialog. Outside of those, each press undoes one step, in this order:

  1. close the navigation drawer (on a phone)
  2. close the issue shown next to the inbox (on wide screens)
  3. close the peek
  4. close the pull request shown next to the issue
  5. leave the issue page and go back to the list
  6. clear the selection
  7. close Search in this view
